Labeling
According to GOST 9031, the following is applied to the side surface of the standard hardness measure:
- trademark of the manufacturer (Center "MET");
- month of verification;
- serial number of the measure assigned by the state metrological service body that carried out the initial verification;
- hardness value of the measure with the designation of the hardness scale.
The State verification stamp belonging to the state metrological service body that carried out the verification is applied to the working surface (in the lower right corner).

Calibration, verification, certification
First and second category standard hardness measures are hardness measuring instruments subject to mandatory verification. Initial and periodic verification of measures is carried out by state metrological service bodies accredited for the right to verify hardness measuring instruments. The verification interval is 2 years.
In accordance with the current state verification schemes, first category measures are calibrated only on state hardness standards of Russia (the custodian of hardness standards is FSUE "VNIIFTRI"). Working hardness measuring instruments (stationary, portable and handheld hardness testers) are verified according to second category measures.
